I opened mine with a tiny screwdriver(wrong tool), couldn't undo the smaller screws inside to get to the switch, closed it up & dropped it while I was going up the stairs. Now it works fine.
P.S. Also pressed the reset button & removed & refitted the card. I tested the battery, 3.6V - not sure what it should be.

Diode
I have three tomtom at home and i got the same problem on all of them. I tried to charge them through varius methods but soon as i took off the charger the green light would turn off and it remain dead. I opened them and i found that on all of them a diode had blown up. I went to maplins and got a diode and they work fine for now.

Try a reset !
if not sure how to do this turn the unit upside down and where the unit connects to the mount or docking station near the electrical terminals you should see a tiny little reset button which needs to be pressed with something small like a paper clip hold for 5 sec then try to power up unit again
hope this helps
