faulty cake mixer?

I have a cake mixer model number shm2 which started to smoke and kept cutting out - i am trying to contact Breville but no joy - please advise what i should do now it has a 2 yr guarantee i believe, and was a present so i dont have the receipt.

Hello Frances,

The best course of action will depend on how long ago the mixer was purchased.

If it is less than a year, the manufacturer will have an obligation to repair or, more likely, replace the product.

Check the documentation which came with the mixer, particularly in relation to the guarantee.

Call them on 0161 621 6900, include the fact that the item was a present, but emphasise the safety issue with regard to the smoke coming from the mixer.

If you have no joy, ask them for the mailing address for their Customer Services department and send a letter asking for a replacement.

If all else fails visit your local Trading Standards office, their advice and assitance is brilliant.
