how can i fix my creda automatic heater from overheating model 79161?

I have 2 creda automatic storage heaters in my flat, model no's 79161. Recently they have started to overheat, I think because stupidly I left towels to dry on them. Now they overheat, what should I do about repairing them? Is this a job for an electrician? Also will I now be using more electricity? I am using economy 7.
