diverter valve problem?

can someone tell me the symptons of a diverter valve failing. thanks

If the boiler is calling for heat and the diverter valve has failed you will see a lever on the side of the valve.If you push this and find a resistance then the synchron motor inside the valve has shot and needs replacing.
