How do I fit a Casio watch strap?

How do I fit a replacement Casio watch strap?
Barry, December 2008
It's hard. Try to avoid the replacement bands with a raised back-piece, which restricts the angle you can use to get the spring-bar back in. Use the finest-blade jeweler's screwdriver you have -- such as the one used to fix eyeglass frames. Plan on lots of fumbling.... and cursing. Have patience. If it's a cheap watch, you might be better off just buying a new one.

For watches with plastic straps (eg Wave Ceptor):
I fitted a new strap to my watch using a sharp screw and a very thin screwdriver. Use the screw to push in the spring bar and the metal bracket comes off. Use the screwdriver to push the spring bar all the way out. Clean the bracket and fit the new watch strap making sure the strap is on the right way (normally strap to top).
Good Luck!

Struggle with your finger nails to get the spring out. Then struggle it back in again. There will be blood!

It depends on the type of Casio watch. Many genuine Casio replacement straps can be found at Http://www.watchbattery.co.uk and they also sell spring bar removal tools as well to aid the removal of spring bars. Their phone number is on the web site.

I can't answer the question other than to say that I have just contacted Casio to ask them how to fit the replacement watch strap they have sent me and they say either to take it to a local jeweller's or send the watch and the new strap back to Casio and they will do it. The necessary device needed to get the strap-retaining pin out of the watch (and then back again with the new strap) is not available, and anyway, they said, they would not recommend customers to try it!
