Glowworm 38 CXI combi boiler no hot water?

I have a Glowworm 38 CXI combi boiler. all was working fine. however we now have central heating but no hot water. each time the tap or shower is turn on the hot water will flow for about 5 seconds them run cold. Central heating is fine, water presure fine, boiler running at 1.7 bar

it is 100% secondary heat exchange plate.I have had the same problem when the boiler was first fitted in 2007 and had it replaced under warranty by glow worm.since then i have had issue with it every 6 six months. having seen what the engineer did to take it out so now i remove and clean before installing the part myself. bad design. no problems with other makes.

I just had the 30CXI boiler done via Domestic and General insurance.
The PLATE Heat Exchanger 2801831 had the build up of black scale / sludge which was present. The engineer knocked the exchanger a few times and the sludge cam out and it's back re-installed and works perfect again.
This part NEW costsat £110 inc. Vat and Delivery.

finaly got hot water, found a second hand boiler , changed the three way valve and motor. also the plate to plate heat exchanger.so i still dont know what part was faulty, the heat exchanger had a bit of crud in it, were as the second hand part looked very good. hope this may be of help to any one having the same problems.

We have the same problem, gas people thought it was a valve but turns out it was the heat exchange plate part no. 2000801831, there was a build up of black scale / sludge which has damaged it. even though there is no other sludge in the system.. Southern electric / gas have quoted approx £450 inc a new scale inhibitor and 4 hours labour to change it.

hi dave .i have the same problem with my boiler. its the same model .have changed the overheat stat and flow thermister. but still have the problem if i get any further forward in the next few days .ill let you know

2 - It is possible that the flow sensor is at fault so try and rule that out before committing to buying any parts.

First have a look here:
http://www.glow-worm.co.uk/products/pdf/discontinued/boilers/CXI_range.pdf

The motor part no is: 801192. only ever done one of these and if my memory serves me I think it was a bit difficult as there is very little room to work on it.

Martin,
is this expensive to fix

Dave, December 2008
I suspect that the diverter valve is the cause of your problem.
