How do I set the timing, spring and speed on an Elgin anniversary clock?

I lost the jewel that the spinner rides in, so I went to the clock shop and he told me it was not worth fixing.
After some discussion he gave me a similar old junker and said if I wanted I could exchange the jewel plates myself. So I changed the plate but the pin diameter was to large on my old spinner. So I used the the spinner from the junker and had to change the magnet as well. Assembly was completed and the spinner spins freely but I had to remove the coiled spring and I loosened the set screw on the spinner shaft. I also played with the speed disc. How do I set the spinner, the coiled spring and the speed control disc? Is there a starting point that is neutral? Any suggestions besides throw it away?

Throw it away. You just combined a Ford with a VW and you expect it to run.
