how to use a convector storage heater?

i have a heater on the wall of my flat wired directly to the mains it has no model name or number on it and no instructions when i moved in, it has a swtich on the wall on either side and a dial on either end both from 0-6 one labled convector and the other storage, ive tried several different combination of the dials and it jstu always seem to be either relaly hot in the morning and cold the rest of the time or just cold full stop, could anyone please tell me how i get it to be hot nad heat the room at night as thats when i am here and i am freezing at the moment cuz i cant get it to work thank you so much

Jen,
Forgetting the convector for the moment, with regard to the storage heater you should have two dials:input and output.
Input controls the temperature that the heater will heat up to when switched on ( i keep mine on 3-4).
Output controls how much heat escapes from the heater and actually moves a metal slider inside the heater. You want this on zero as it heats up and then later on when you are home you should open it up (dont forget to shut it again later on!)

My storage heater is hard wired in as well and the switch means that it will come on at economy 7 time (11pm till 6am - overnight). So i cant actually turn it on when i want! I dont know if yours is the same though. Always keep this switch on.

The Convector on the other hand is a small fan inside the storage heater that has its own mini heater (like a hair dryer) that will come on immediately (costly and inefficient) or it might just blow air through the storage heater and use the residual heat. The convector is a 'here and now' solution to heating and is not a good way to constantly heat your room.

Look for the input and output as they are the key to efficiently using your storage heater.

By the way, all storage heaters are actually crap so dont worry too much!
