Hotpoint wd440g flashing on/off and time saver buttons?

Hi, the above washer drier keeps tripping out my rcd and I've traced this to a high resistance fault between the drier heater element and the casing that this sits inside. I was just going to buy a replacement element and fit that to solve the problem (about £30), but before I do...I have tried the washer drier with the heater element for the drier disconnected, which keeps the rcd in, but results in the error code above (on/off flashing rapidly and time saver flashing more slowly) and all the machine does is try to empty the sump. Could the open circuit of the drier heater element be causing the fault-code or is it now pointing to some other fault? Just trying to figure out whether I'm wasting my time with the drier heater element when something else could be stuffed too?

Have managed to get rid of the flashing on/off and time saver lights now by putting the machine on a fast spin cycle and letting it finish. Read this somewhere else on the internet, but can't find the site again. Anyway its worked just fine, think its related to the machine possibly needing to complete the cycle it faulted on - from memory I think the manual suggests something similar if the settings get changed mid cycle. Anyway no more fault! Have managed to get the damn thing to wash the clothes by disconnecting the earth lead from the drier heater element casing, so the rcd no longer sees the earth fault. Definitely not a long-term solution - new heater element arriving on Tuesday - £25, a lot of messing about, but that should be it. Hope this helps at least one other person!
