Bell & Howell Filmsound 8 Model 458?

I got this Projector in 1960  The belt or belts turned to  mush. (like melted tar)  The fan motor runs Is there another motor and where can I get new belts.?Is there more than one motor in this projector?

Hi Charles, I also have a Bell & Howell Filmsound 8 Model 458 that needs the belts replaced. Could you tell me how you were able to install the new belts on your projector. I can't figure it out. There is no way to get the belt around the motor of fan assembly without taking apart the entire projector.

Hello, these belts (O-rings really) can be purchased off ebay for a few dollars or you can take it to Ace or True value hardware and they can make you one. You need to remove the Goop aka former belt first. I would highly suggest disposable gloves a small dental pick and lots of rubbing achohol. Be patient it will take a bit to get it all off. Go ahead and clean the old grease off the gears while you are in there and re-lube it with silicone lube. It will run much quiter and stable that way.
