vaillant boiler not kicking in?

my vaillant boiler (unsure of model) just isn't kicking in. normally when you switch the boiler on it makes the sound that its starting up but the yellow light doesn't come on and it then stops. very vague description of fault but any ideas?

Check the fan is running, pressure is ok , gas is switched on, and the pressure switch is working correctly.
