Fab advice
Poured kettle on white outlet pipe and a large lump of ice followed by water came out.
Restarted boiler and all fine...yay!!

DIFFERENT REASON TO THE ABOVE:
My EA problem was nothing to do with the condenser drain, instead the heat inside the boiler had caused the spark plugs to get too close together and it wasn't sparking efficiently enough to ignite the gas. This was diagnosed and fixed by the guy who installed it, I wouldn't advise a home-made fix unless you know what you're doing.

I had the same problem this morning(Christmas day!!!) had previously resolved it with a kettle of water so followed the same routine. However, 6 kettles later and I still had EA flashing on the unit. I removed the white flexi pipe from the underside of the boiler and drained about 2 pints of water from it, reset the boiler and hey presto, all working again.

brillant, it did take me a few attempts with the kettle, i didnt want to make it too hot but after 3 goes, i tipped 1 full boiling hot kettle over it, and wacko its working. had this boiler for some time, and every so often it did this, and used to just leave it, but now know the fix , a brillant thread, thanks guys

Hi
Thank you all. This forum has probably saved me £100-plus on a plumber call-out. My Worcester Greenstar condensing boiler stopped working too and I got the "EA" letters flashing. Resetting didn't work.

I thawed the outlet pipe outside the house that led to the drain, which was blocked with thick ice. A couple of kettles of boiling water sorted this.

The boiler still didn't fire up at this point so I disconnected the white condensing pipe that leads from the bottom of the boiler and drained the condensed water into a bucket. I reconnected it to the trap/discharge pipe and the boiler fired up first time. It's been fine since...

You people are all saints. Had a whole day with no heating and getting EA fault, just read this board and you have solved my issue. Because it is dark outside I was able to use a bucket and just pull the flexible white hose off inside the boiler, and about 2 pints of water came out. Boiler started no problem. Thank you and god bless you all.

woo hoo my worcester greenstar 42cdi combi boiler problem was flashing ea at me and thanks to this forum I found the condensate drain frozen - kettled it & a-ok so far
thanks be to the internet!!!

Hi thanks for the advice, just drained the condensation outlet pipe (under the boiler) and hey presto the EA error sign has gone and it has started up again! all this because the waste pipe outside was frozen, thanks again.

Just had exact same problem and also managed to fix it by pouring hot water on the pipe outside.

funny how many people posting this month, this cold snap is really taking its toll.

I had the same problem. I tried pouring hot water on the pipework but no joy, so found the point at which the boiler connected to the piping (just underneath the boiler). There was a flexible water cable. Took that out of its fixing with the plastic piping and fed it into a bucket. Water started to come out and the boiler is now working.

Just forgot to mention I defrosted the pipe by boiling a kettle couple times and pouring on the frozen pipe outside no more EA error codes boiler working fine again

I just had the same issue and it also turned to be frozen condensation pipe outside its the 15mm pipe that runs from the boiler.

Sam, January 2010
Hi I just had the same fault an after a little investigating it turned out to be the condensor trap outlet was blocked. This was running to the outside drain and had become frozen! this blockage stop the boiler from firering and caused the EA fault code. This is only one cause for the EA code there are others. I imagine you have fixed your boiler by now but for any others with this issue in the future reading this I hope it helps.
