This symptom also occurs when the drum to pump exhaust pipeway is blocked. Fluff / hair etc can accumulate in this area especially if pet bedding is washed for example.

take out the dispenser drawer and check if the outlet hole is blocked.
If necessary remove the top cover of the machine,(power off) and disconnect the flexible hoses from the dispenser. Check if theyre blocked. The dispenser itself can be separated - generally held together with plastic clips. Clean out any crud or hardened detergent. Check for water scale causing the inlet jet to misdirect. Also check the hose which runs from the dispenser tray to the drum for internal blockages.
