unlock wifi on Advent 4211c netbook?

I have just bought the above netbook, how do I unlock the wifi on it to use it? It can register the networks but will not connect. I have tried to connect to router with cable and still does not work!

i had the same problem with advent 4489. took it to pc world who said it was ok.i said connect it to shop network to prove it or i would not leave the store without refund. they gave me a new one their and then as they could see network on pc but it would not connect.

have you turned on the wi fi i know this might sound obvious but it is often over looked

disable the power management on the settings and you may wish to install a new driver

I am having bother with my web cam also

This also fixes the problem of the Advent 4489 netbook as it is apparent that the wifi is switched off by default on installation of new PC. Very unhelpful way of setting up default on auto loading of a pc by Currys and PC World. FN and F11 together.

if you press and hold Fn and press f11 once or twice im not sure it should put an icon on the right hand side of your screen at the bottom.

- press Fn and hold and F6 for webcam

- press and hold Fn the go through from f2 to f11 if you are stuck with bluetooth as i am not sure which it is.

this definitly works!

On the F buttons (F11 i think) you will have an image of a antenna press Ctrl and F11 together to turn on your wi-fi

Darrell, December 2008
Thanks for your reply, but just tried that (I think) and it hasn't done anything.

When I try to connect to my wireless connection, it comes up with a message box 'Windows in unable to connect to the selected network. The network may no longer be in range.'

The network is in range as it has full bars and I am sitting next to it! Plus my other laptop is connected too!

Swims, December 2008
You have to make sure your wireless settings are matched to your router, i.e, WEP,WPA or WPA2 encryption etc.
You will find these settings in the network connections/wireless networks/properties tab
