Drip leak from bottom of Insinkerator Badger 5, 1/2 HP?

There is a slow drip of water from a metal tab adjacent to the red button on the bottom of my Insinkerator Badger 5, 1/2 HP garbage disposal. How might I fix this? Model is 5-75. Thanks,
Drippy, December 2008
Mine leeks too; from the bottom. New in 2013, 4 to 5 years old. Disappointing; can't believe Insinkerator is still in business. Will replace with a different manufacturer.

Jim Nurray, November 2017
Same problem with Badger 5. Just purchased a new one today to replace our old Badger 5 which lasted 16 years. After spending most of the day installing it, we found that it is leaking from the bottom. A real disappointment especially since we just took it out of the box! I guess that's a chance you take with everything you buy. It might be a lemon

E K, August 2017
Badger 5 leaking from bottom.....installed in 2010. Guess I am lucky it lasted this long

Kathy, March 2017
well... I have Tweeny now 25 years old and only service is replacement 'mouth' fingers rubber
equally I have an Insinkerator in my other home which is leaking (water goes straight through and comes gushing out of base) That is about 8 years old and used for one month a year.
Insinkerator agents says no spares kit available and probably lack of use!! so only option is replace at $300. I'm not buying another Insinkerator...NO brainer really

Clifford, January 2017
Same problem here with a less than 5 year old Badger 5 InSinkErator POS!! It has multiple holes on the bottom and water was leaking out of them. Will never buy this brand ever again. Waiting for the plumber to come tomorrow to see if he will repair or replace. My guess is the latter!

Angry Retiree in CT, April 2016
Emerson Electric Company is the manufacturer of disposals labeled Incinerator, Kenmore, KitchenAid and others, perhaps all U.S. made. Undoubtably, the cost to redesign these these units exceeds their customer dissatisfaction costs and would reveal the millions of defective units in homes all over the US.

Ron, October 2015
Our Badger 5 lasted 13 years which I find outstanding. I'm buying another one for $80 on Amazon (same day delivery!) and if it last half of that long for that price I'll be pleased. I just hope the manufacturing process hasn't changed dramatically, and I end up with same experience as others here have complained about. Do yourself a favor and buy one of those $5 water detector alarms. It's the best insurance you'll ever buy.

Kentc, September 2015
Mine's a Badger 5 Plus, 5/8 HP, and also leaking from the reset button and metal tabs. I put a new one in in 2004. That one locked up the 2nd time i used it. Lowe's replaced with the one that is currently leaking. POS. I can only imagine the damage it's done under the cabinet floor.

MA, May 2015
Badger leaking out the bottom. Sorry design. Wet flooring .. sound familiar?

Perry, January 2015
Built my house in Sept 2001,noticed the water under sink today 1-4-15

Will replace with a new one this week.

Walter Stone, January 2015
Add me to the list, my in sink erator was put in the kitchen four years ago and is not leaking. Noticed it as I pulled a box of trash bags out from under the sink and it was wet, the base of the cabinet is now buckled and an empty vase that was under neath the leak is full. I can only imagine what I am going to find when I rip this unit out and all the water damage! Law suit, sign me up!!!

Other then the complaints can anyone suggest a GREAT replacement, and dont try and recommend a more expensive model from these hacks???

Carl, December 2014
Badger 5 Model 5-81 1/2 HP.. For anyone that wants to (or needs to) mess with it is possible to replace the seal. Before you start be sure you have the seal and o-ring (see Below). This assumes that you have some experience with replacing seals etc.

Remove the 4 long screw-bolts that hold the motor together and separate the case. remove the top rubber cover. Undo the nut that hold the chopper blade in (an impact wrench make the job MUCH easier). Slide the shaft out the bottom. Next pry the metal bottom to the chopping chamber (the one that holds the bushings and seal) from the top piece. This will take a lot of slow prying because of the sealer. Be sure to note the order that things come out in. You should now be able to pry out the old seal. The o-ring is on the outside (sealing edge) of the metal bottom piece.
The seal that came out of mine was a CLS SSUL SC 0.75X1.375X0.25 The O-ring measured 5 9/16 ID (could be 5 1/2, guessing either would work) by 1/8.
Clean up all the parts, reassemble with some good sealer and you should be good to go if it was just the seal that was bad.
Hope this is of use to someone.

Scott, December 2014
Add me to the list. I noticed mine leaking today. Bought it in 2005 so it lasted 9 years, I guess I'm lucky after reading the posts. Mine is a 444 model. I'm guessing it's toast. It's leaking out the bottom near the reset button. It's runs fine never had a problem with it, to bad it's leaking.

Bone, November 2014
Great thread. I have a pro333. -11. Serial number 05101659436
Called the manufacturer 1-800-558-5700. The rep said this model was built in 2005. I bought this house in 2013 and disposal came with it.
Recently I noticed it leaking from the bottom. The weep holes and around the circuit breaker (scary. Thank you grounding wire)

Any way I replaced it with a badger 500 and then found this thread. I got to be honest- seems as the majority here are frustrated and don't provide fixes just exasperation. That's completely understandable.

Earlier in the thread a guy said his wife removed 4 screws and remove be the bottom of the unit.

I'd replaced my unit by then so I had nothing to loose tearing apart the old one. It was a. 3/4hp model. Fierce chomper. Never stalled. I couldn't just throw it away with out doing a post mortem. :)

To get the base off:
The pro333-11 I have has a plastic sound suppression collar around it. Take that off. It's all plastic do it bends a bit. The plastic locks are where the drain and dishwasher tubes are. There are 3 connections that hold this collar together. Look closely and you'll see the front of a triangulated clip and a spot you can put a skinny screwdriver ( I used a steak knife tip, it was nearby , first thing available.:). )

Anyway. Remove the plastic insulative skirt. The B-500 doesn't have one by the way.

Now. With the top op the disposal face down bottom up. You'll see 4 fasteners heads. Mine is a 5mm head. Yours might be different but I doubt it. It wouldn't be cost effective for the manufacturer to buil these thing using different hardware for each model

Remove the fasteners. They are pretty long. About half the link of the disposal.

After you remove them you'll have to put a little effort into removing the bottom cover. At least I did. Maybe you'll get lucky and the bottom will come off easily. Mine didn't. I used a screw driver, insert it in the gap between the upper and lower body. Work your way around twist - turn. Reap eagerly around the circumference Eventually you'll get the two pieces away from each other enough to pull them apart. I put the top (the heavy end) between my legs to hold and pulled on the bottom.

It comes off a little difficult because there is a seal holding it together. It's the same seal that should be keeping water from escaping but has failed.

Once you get it opened it's pretty ugly and smells like stinky decomposing rot

The next step is to clean off all that gunk.

That's where I'm at now. I'm pretty sure I can clean it down to new looking. Then I'll need to buy a tube of gasket sealer. Something water proof.

The manufacturers of these disposals are crooks in my opinion. Every thing about them is decent quality except for the bottom seal. They should have used something more everlasting and endurant

I'm going to fix this one and shelve it till my current badger starts leaking. Unless the motor dies these units are very well built and would last long if not for the sub-par bottom seal.

Dan, September 2014
My badger 5 was made in 1994, installed in 1996 and now in 2014 just started leaking. Reading the other complaints makes my disposal look like a saint! I am working on trying to fix it myself. If it works I will let everyone know

gg63, August 2014
wow, mine started leaking after 6 years so I guess I'm "lucky"! what a p.o.s.!!!

burntheministry, August 2014
Add me to the list. Had my model 5-75 for 5 years and now it's leaking from the housing. I going for the higher end stainless steel model.

CES, July 2014
Me too, cracked on the side and squirting out when I turn it on. I'm glad I caught it before it caused other damage.

Eric Pabst, July 2014
The internal seal is gone and cannot be replaced. This is usually due to what has been ground up in the device.
I always put the carcass of a chicken or small turkey down it. Wont do this again.

Easy to replace with another model. Unplug it, remove small rubber hose, disconnect it from plumbing. You can transfer the wiring over to the new unit as well as the connection to the disposal unit. Takes about 15 - 30 minutes and you are done.
Not a big deal to do.

Gord in Victoria BC, June 2014
My badger 5 Plus Insinkerator is leaking also. With so may people having the same problem with these disposals, it's amazing they have such high ratings on Lowes.com. Start putting in your reviews people!

sadowner, May 2014
I came upon this site looking for an answer to the same problem, except mine is throwing the braker off everytime we turn it on now. Off to buy a new unit, to bad it will not be a Badger 5 even though I live in WI and thought it was great to suppourt locally.

Steve, May 2014
One more to the list.. I opened mine up and can see a hole on the plate below the turn table. That plate is so thin and cheap. No wonder it does not last. I called them and they said mine was 4 years old and advised me to go to homedepot and look for the same model as they still make it. They told me that they make this with the best available materials and that they have never heard of this issue and that there are aerators that work for 8 years and beyond. I am told that this happened because of the way I used this thing. Maybe I sounded like a moron to him on the phone.

Karthik Kannan, April 2014
This is amazing that this problem is soooooooo common with Badger 5 disposals. 2 year warranty is a joke. I guess I should feel fortunate that mine lasted about 4 years before it started leaking. What a piece of junk ! I'll look for a replacement that isn't made by Emerson. So I guess I'll kiss off about $200 bucks for a new unit and installation.

AJ, April 2014
I've had mine about 8 years and it started leaking from the bottom. Buckled my cabinet floor before I realized it. It seems to leak on the inside chamber until it corrodes through a little hole in the base and drips out. This isn't a pressure leak but a slow one so a little epoxy or Bondo will work if you clean and dry first. I didn't even have to take it out from the sink to repair and it has been dry as a bone. I hope whoever reads this has an equally easy experience fixing theirs too. Good luck.

scott, March 2014
My 5-75 is over 20 years old, it doesn't say Badger on it. It has never leaked but it is frozen solid. I almost tore the bottom of the sink off yanking on the little jam buster wrench. After reading about how all these newer ones leak, I'm going to try one of their Evolution models. Time will tell if it is a leaker...

Oculos, January 2014
Had this insinkerator badger 5 for barely 2 years and it is leaking from the bottom also. Seems like a class action suit should be filed since rhis is a very common problem and they know about it and still make them and sell them. Ruined the floor under the sink. One i had before this lasted 15 years. This unit is junk! Do not buy!

Nomo insunkerator, December 2013
Same issue, I have a Badger 5, 5-81 SN determines built Oct 2007, and it is also leaking from the reset button and metal tabs. Insinkerator customer service only helped by saying I'd have to replace it. Sounds like a known issue to me.

dmc, December 2013
Hello All, just another note on this unit. Mine is 4 years old, was replaced when kitchen was rebuilt. I got it at Home Depot. Yes I'm out of warrantee too. Mine leaks from a crack in the housing. I used Flex Seal spray to seal the crack, took a few coats but it has stopped for now. Hate to get a garbage disposal for Christmas so I hope it last until the holidays are over.

Angel57, December 2013
I feel lucky my 5-81 lasted 7 years before the drip started. I ran the unit til the motor froze up. Now the problem is to find one that will last and last.

Faa4now, November 2013
It seems like built-in obsolescence by Badger. One would think the motor would be the first to fail, as there are many plastic composites that would ensure a proper water seal for many years, but they chose to go with an inferior thin steel that rusts out like clock-work in 2-5 years. Then, even if the motor component is fully operational, it must be disposed of because of inability to repair and no parts available. Probably a simple plastic bottom casing would do the job. Maybe even cost them less to make. Yet for whatever excuse they use to justify it, they have used inferior design purposefully to increase failure and their sales as well. Especially when you are dealing with a housewives busy kitchen that needs to be fixed NOW at any cost. They know their market. THIS would be a great Group Lawsuit against Badger. How many cabinets & floors have been ruined due to their faulty design? How can they claim to be a professional quality product manufacturer, then make such a simply flawed units? Then, upon receiving an inordinate amount of complaints...stick their heads in the sand and continue to produce the flawed unit! Sign me up for a Group Class-Action Lawsuit. Any lawyers out there need some business??

Badger Beware, October 2013
I followed the advice here, took off the bottom housing, stripped off all the black sticky goop from around the housing, and applied plumbers 'Goop' sealant. I put the housing back on around the flywheel and let it sit overnight. I installed it back in the sink and let water pour down the drain and VOILA!! No drips coming out from under the disposal anymore!

Mike Gray, September 2013
Just thought I'd add mine to the list. Leaking from the bottom. Looks like it's not worth the effort to try to fix. Gonna try a different brand and hope for the best.

Mike, August 2013
Plumbers putty fixed the valve leak - at least temporarily. I still haven't gotten up the courage to try running the actual unit.

Patrick, May 2013
Sigh. Wish I seen this earlier. Installed it today. Leaked after three runs - on the first day!. From gasket seal *and* from the bottom. Spent many hours installing. Very much wanted it to work. What a shame and wish I seen this. Will call the number to see if they will help me. I am going to try and use plumber putty to repair this model (which was purchase less than 5 hours ago).

Patrick, May 2013
I just installed a new out of the box insuckerator. Now it is leaking from the bottom two weeks later. I am glad that I found this site

tdk, April 2013
My Badger Insinkerator 5-81 is leaking from a small crack in the side of the housing. It is about 8 years old. I guess it just must be replaced.

Rex, March 2013
I'm going to throw out the leaking InSinkErator; throw out the garbage myself; and re-plumb it with a regular drain and trap. Problem solved. The hell with disposals.

Evl Sluggo, March 2013
Hello All. I also had the leak everyone here has. After online research, I didn't bother an attempt at a fix since there was NOT one website that showed a fix. All there answers were to replace and only that can be done. So I ordered a replacement on Amazon. Since I had 2 days of wait, I opened it up just to see the inside. I thought there was some kind of seal that went bad. NOPE. there is no seal, only some black sealent. All I had to do was clean off all the grime and rust. Put generous amount of gasket maker and let it set over night. Tightened it up and reassembled. Why is there no instruction online for this quick fix???
I even took some pictures but I don't think I can post them up here. You should give it a try. It saved me $180 in replacement. I have pro 333-11.

sertimins, January 2013
InSinkErator 444 fails on New Years Day 2012! Great! Now that I've got family in town. After looking for a possible answer to this leak, I guess my only option is to replace it since I'm sure I won't have my receipt.

nabog, December 2012
Any one found a brand to replace it with that doesn't require plumbing work. Not my specialty...

Rakestdn, December 2012
Add another leaky one to this list... It would cost just a couple dollars more to make that weak plate last longer when building this disposal. In other words, it performed just as designed!

Bob, November 2012
Add me too. My Badger 5 In Sink Erator is developing small cracks right in the side of the housing. Leaks are growing worse everyday. Less than 2 years old.

John, November 2012
Same Problem. Unhappy with Badger 5 In Sink Erator.

Paul, October 2012
Add me to the list. Mine is leaking after 2plus years.

phil, October 2012
Insinkerator---------SUCKS! I got this crappy unit and its leaks! never again!

cj, October 2012
New home, 5 years old. Badger leaking from inside now in 3 locations. Dismounted it, but I think I won't bother with fixing it, and I'm a DIY person.

5 years? My parents had appliances last for 25 years. What is going on.

PJ in Tampa, October 2012
I have had mine from when we built our house about 10 years ago. My wife noticed this afternoon it was leaking from the bottom. I removed the disposer, disassembled it (not difficult), and found that they used a cheap metal plate between the grinding unit and the stator area. When I held this up to the light, I could see small holes all around the edge. I placed silicone sealant on it, thinking I could buy the replacement part. Cannot seem to find the pc, so I think I may just replace the whole thing. Shame on the manufacturer for using such cheap material and not fixing the problem.

jsb, September 2012
The leak just started happening on the bottom of the unit at the under-plate of my Badger 5 Plus.
It ruined the base cabinet floor. aargh!

Since this is a place for solutions, does anyone have any suggestions for a recommended brand other than insinkerator and Kitchen Aid garbage disposals that would fit the fitting to that of the Badger 5 Plus?

I will definitely prefer NOT purchasing a product that is not fixable. That is an un-American and wasteful approach to achieve a quality product!

Thanks, everyone!

Drumsticks, July 2012
And there I was thinking I'd come here and find a nice, simple solution. Ours is spurting water from pretty much everywhere -soaking through the surrounding unit, creating a big mouldy mess. Feeling like I've just opened a can of worms after simply searching for an answer!

What a load of rubbish, July 2012
I have the same problem. My Badger1, 1/3hp in sink erator started leaking from the bottom at the reset button. I think I purchased it from home depot about 2 years ago. The garbage disposal before this one lasted more than 9 years. I wish I could remember the brand name.

JK, July 2012
After reading a previous simple solution, I tried fixing a leak from the bottom by removing the disposer, dissembling it from the plastic housing, removing some of the deteriorating black tar like sealant and lining that area with plumbers putty. It was wet around some of the housing where the black tar like sealant seemed to be failing. It still leaks and even seems to be worse; but it may just be an internal seal that may have gotten worse by all the handling. I also resealed around the sink flanges prior to trying this, hoping it was only due to failing plumbers putty aroung the gaskets sealing the sink. I guess we need a new disposer.

Daniel, June 2012
Since last night, it started leaking near the reset button and also at 2 or 3 inches away from reset button - dripping all over the cabinet under the sink. I bought it 2 years ago. Seems like there's no solution to fix it other than spend more money to replace it! what a crap!

SK, June 2012
Mine is worse. There a hole right through the side of the housing. It shoots water out of it when the disposal is used. And there are the beginnings of other holes as well.
Looks like the Waste King is the only answer.

JBD, June 2012
This is not an answer but a further question. I also have a leaky Badger, from the same place, at the bottom. It has been very temperamental for a number of years...if you dare to put one more potato peel than it can handle into it, it freaks out. Normally I am very good about catering to its whims, but last week I apparently dared to put one more peach peel than it liked into the disposal. Now it is leaking into the cabinet, but it is doing one additional thing: the leak continues even when I am just running the water.

I really CANNOT afford to replace the darned thing right now. I read a post below where one guy mentioned that his wife unscrewed four screws, cleaned out some black gunk, put in plumber's putty, and then replaced it with the screws. I woul be up for trying this, but it seems like you guys are saying that he wires are right there. I am afraid of messing with it and getting zapped?

Julie, May 2012
Mine is just under two years old and started leaking near the electrical loop. I wish I'd seen this site earlier and I wish I'd googled "badger, leak" sooner! It is a rip off!

Soaked under Sink in VA, May 2012
My leak is also coming from the bottom of Model #5-81. I just got off the phone with the service rep. She informed me that it only has a 2 year warranty. She told me to buy a new one and that it wasn't worth repairing.

Yessenia, May 2012
I had the sameproblem with my insinkerator. After reading this forum I decided to buy a different brand. I bought a kitchenaid model KCDB250. It cost $30 more than the insinkerator. I thought it was worth the extra money for a better product. Lo and behold I took it out of the box and it looked exactly the same as the insinkerator. The only difference was the name plate. These are obviously made by the same manufacturer. What a rip!

Ken, April 2012
We have had our Badger 5 for about four years. It started leaking yesterday. I am glad I read this blog. I did replace it with another one ( the last one lowes had and it was on clearance) I would have changed brands but I would have had to change the routing under the sink. Next time I will have to.

Steve in Mt. Vernon Wa., April 2012
My recommendation is to go with a different disposal all together. The leak is not fixable and the service call will tell you the same thing. What a load of crap!!!

lighting guy, March 2012
thought I was getting a quality unit In Sink erator 444 was highly recomended....wrong ! leaking on the bottom too.... was told I have to replace?

tech Shop Tools, February 2012
Same problem here, leaking at bottom near reset button, mine is about 2 1/2 years old. very unfortunate, seems like a manufacturing problem. i would have thought they would stood behind it...

Franco, February 2012
This is a POS disposal. The flywheel seal needs replacing, but you cannot get that part. Good luck.

J DUB, January 2012
Bought my Insinkerator Badger 5 1/2 HP (Model 5-75) about four years ago. It is now leaking from the bottom of the disposal in several places. Like someone else posted, I was going to try to replace with the same model to make things a little easier to hook back up, but after reading about everyone else having the same problem with this same model, I'm switching to another brand. Thank you everyone for your input!

Tony B., January 2012
Me too.

CollinsvilleMatt, January 2012
Add another leak to a long list. Avoid it if you can.

Thuiscout, December 2011
Add me to the list of complainants. Same issue, leaking around the electrical supply at the base of the housing. SCARY!!!

Wet in Western NC, December 2011
Chris Walker and everyone else... THANK YOU!!
Chris, you are so right! Having worked in a large Customer Satisfaction department for a major industry for years, I can assure youl, social Media is either a benefit or a detriment depending on how the company embraces the opportunity for change.
We have the same issue with our disposal ... most probably not originating tonight, but having just been discovered tonight as the water was pouring from our base cabinet. The wetness is destroying our base cabinet and the laminate flooring. We definitely need to replace the disposal but like so many others, will choose another brand.

Tyler Jaeger, October 2011
I went to open the site to find solutions, now I feel like I have a family of friends! Yep, mine too is leaking from where? Who knows! You're right no insinkerator!

Joe C SINY, October 2011
Just replaced a Badger less than two months ago from a leak on the bottom and I'll be damned if the new is not doing the same thing..... Think I'll buy a goat and keep him under the sink.

Badger Hater, September 2011
I have the same problem after only about 2 years. Will replace with something other than Insinkerator.

mc, September 2011
We had the same problem and my wife just fixed it by removing the 4 screws that hold the bottom part that houses the motor. After that she removed all the black goop around the gasket and then used plumber's putty to replace it. She reattached the four screws and now it doesn't leak anymore.

pete, August 2011
My InSinkErator Badger model 5 plus-5 is leaking crazy after two years of service, the same problem as you guys complained. To my surprise, it is not made in China. Instead, it is made in Racine, WI, USA. What a shame!

Justin Houston, August 2011
If you remove the cover of the motor you'll see the base of this thing is galvanized steel. The steel rusts through and it leaks. What a POS. Terrible design.

insinkerator sucks, June 2011
My Insinkerator 444 is Leaking from the bottom. Horrible stench ! Should i try and fix it ?

Bob johnson, April 2011
My Insinkerator 5-75 is not that old and it is leaking from the bottom and the sides. What a horrible product. I will never buy one again.

Brady, February 2011
We too have complaints of leaks from disposals we have installed for clients. What a horrible company. We will never buy Insinkerator again.

Everyone should file a complaint with the BBB!

Insinkerator suks!!!, February 2011
Have a Badger 1. 7 years old. Leaking out the bottom like crazy. Seems like there should be a "repair" seal of some sort. Don't really know what is leaking, but I do know that it's not fixable. Well, off to Lowe's to buy a new one. Not getting a "Badger" this time though. Sorry "InSindErator" people. But your product needs a "redesign".

Wade, February 2011
Wholy crap. Just did some googling and came accross this... good thing. My badger 5 1/2 hp is leaking intternally. i opened the tiny screw on panel on the bottom and the whole thing is wet on the inside, wires and all. I believe the thing was new when I baught the house 3 yrs ago. Not going to bother calling anyone reading this. Going to buy a different model tomorrow.

brian from ohio, February 2011
I have the same problem with my 5-75 as well. I'm glad that I read your guys discussion. I was trying to get the same model as the replacement. Now, forget it! I will get another brand instead. Thx

Ken, February 2011
My unit 5-75 is leaking too. Not sure exactly how old but it looks somewhat rusted inside. Even if it is just the seal/gasket, the base plate or flywheel could be corroding now or soon, so it would be a waste of time to repair it. I will just get a new one. It is surprising that this is such a common occurrence from looking at these posts. I would have thought one of these models should last at least 10 years since the motor still seems to work fine.

doug, January 2011
Bought my Badger 5 new in 2006 and it is leaking like crazy from reset and 2 tabs on bottom. Can I buy King Legend 8000 from Home Improvement Center like Home Depot. Couldn't find one at Lowes. Don't want to wait for shipping off of Amazon.

Dane, January 2011
My 5 75 is not old AT ALL and is drippy at the 3 little hole along the bottom of the unit and i would guess from everyones input that it just defective, it also makes my switch short out when i try to use it...unless i have allow it to dry for, say, overnight. I feel i may just replace it. :(

Pat B, December 2010
Mine is leaking by the reset button as well. Bought it new in 2003. Expected it to last longer, I used it maybe once every couple of days. Definately going with another brand.

Ob1, November 2010
My 5-81 is leaking from the reset button too. POS! I guess I probably won't waste my time on the phone with them.

Beetom2, November 2010
I find it interesting that someone from the company has not posted anything regarding the widespread nature of this problem??? Come on guy's (In Sink Erator) It is 2010!!! Are you aware of a little thing called SOCIAL MEDIA? Almost 500,000,000 (Yep Boys...that's 8 ZERO's) of your potential customers log on to FaceBook, LinkedIn or Twitter every day. They share all kinds of information, including their experience with inferior products and unresponsive customer service departments that still live in the dark ages. Remember the old (about 20-30 years ago) adage that if you make a customer happy they would, on average, tell 3-4 people and if you made them mad they would tell approximately 12-14 people? Don't want to scare you with higher math or try to explain viral marketing to ya, but there are enough posts on here to have a significant impact on your sales. Maybe you could share this with upper management when they are in the War Room trying to figure out why the competition is eating their lunch (OR AT LEAST DOSPOSING OF IT). Didn't intend for this to be funny, but I couldn't pass that one up!!!! LOL (That's laugh out loud for you old corporate farts that still think TWEETING has something to do with birds. (Oh by the way, my In Stinkerator is leaking from the same tabs and it is 4 years old!

If you guys want some help in taking a critical problem and turning it into an opportunity to create loyal customers, email me at born2bselling (the at goes here) gmail.com and I will help you for free!

Replaced it with a Waste King Legend 8000 Life Warranty from Waste King dealer on eBay for about $115. Was top rated in Consumer Reports August 2009. I didn't think it was worth the time/money to replace a seal if that were the problem.

Same problem. Will replace with something with a better warranty. Seems like it should last longer than it did but guess not.

I do get the leak from the reset button and it is 10 years old so I bought the one from homedepot for 80 $ and replaced the existing one

I have a Badger 1, 1/3 HP that came with my new house. The service rep at ISE basically offered no useful advise. He mentioned to me that the housing is no longer available (which is irrelevant) and suggested I buy a new one. After reading Consumer Reports' review, I've decided that I will be replacing the unit with a Waste King L-8000 Legend Series 1 HP. I found one on Amazon for $116 and it has a lifetime guarantee! Adios ISE.

I have the Insinkerator Model 444 and it's leaking from the tab adjacent to the reset button also. Sounds like a factory flaw in design that this is so prevalent. I'm on hold awaiting an answer from the number to call that's on the unit. . .

According to Bob Vila, a drip coming out the bottom of a garbage disposal (a problem I am dealing with now) results from a worn seal and/or impeller inside the unit. I am looking for parts for my 5-75 now.

NO ANSWER BUT SEEMS TO BE AN EPIDEMIC. JUST BOUGHT HOUSE / BUILT IN 2002. LEAKING AT RESET BUTTON.

There is a two year warrranty on the unit.
They also will give you 6 months for shelf life.
So you call up the 1-800-558-5700 and
give them your serial number (or have a buy receipt) They will either send a tech to fix and if its an equipment malfunction will pay for the tech and the new badger...OR option two which I just took..send you a new one (same model) via UPS and you get it installed yourself. If you get a prepaid UPS stamp you ship your old one back for free. They were very helpful on the phone and will give you a confirm case number after you verify your address.

My leak is comimg from the reset button. I called the AnswerLine, 1-800-558-5700 and he said it had internal leaking so I should get a new one. I bought it in July 2002.

I have the same problem now! House is 8 years old. Yikes. I am having trouble even removing the unit

(December 26, 2008.) I don't have an answer. However, I have the same exact problem with my 5-75. It is about 7 years old. I have rust signs around the seam where the bottom plate fits on the unit. I plan to replace the entire disposal.
