I have lazy boy rocker; recliner that will not release to the closed position...the handle seems to be frozen & I can't get it release...this has happened only once before when I was able to accomplish that the chair was working properly...but...I don't recall what I did to make it work !!!!

Ours was stuck open and I took the little spring that is attack to the gear mechanism off entirely and the chair closed right up. No problem after that. good luck, stupid chair.

for WEE SHELLY...I finally got mine to operate again...
only thing I can do is tell you what I tried...but...be careful...underneath there is a spring loaded rachet that locks the chair in position there is a black piece of metal that rests on the gear...gently preferredly...
(I used a small ball pean hammer) tap the metal strip forward to release it from the gear...if the chair now gets you back to normal great!!! note: I think that the black piece of metal will go back to the gear on its own
if not merely lift the black piece of metal up & it will go into place (I nipped my finger so I suggest using any thing like a screw driver instead) I had to do this more than 1x before it worked for me...good luck for you...

i have the same problem..(kinda).my chair half opens...2 feet up posistion.then it sticks..tried every thing.looking in,and under the chair..any help would be VERY much appreciated
