My Whirpool top load washing machine's agitator is not working properly?

It's only agitating some of the time. The agitator acts like it is stripped, it's making a lot of noise and only seems to 'catch' some of the time. It makes the most noise during the wash and rinse cycle as it attempts to agitate. It is spinning, but is making a new rattly noise. It is a Whirlpool Heavy Duty Stylemaster washing machine. Is it possible for me to fix it? How difficult is it?

If you are still trying to fix this, the problem is your agitator dogs - part # 285770 or part# 80040. The price is reasonable since Ebay has them for around $6.50 for the pack of 4 (which includes shipping)

Here is a link to one of the websites that explains how to replace the agitator dogs:

Hope it helps..
