Musty smell ?

I have a Hoover 1600AAA washing machine and there is a strong musty smell coming from it. We have cleaned the filter at the front, washed out the soap tray, checked the outlet hose (it smells very fresh). When we cleaned out the filter, the water that came out did have a musty smell so we thought we had fixed it. However it only lasted a day and the smell is back. Any ideas?

More likely mould inside the outer drum. A combination of low temp washes and biological detergents encourages a growth of slimy mould inside the drum. Do an empty wash at the highest temperature setting and put a cupful of white vinegar in the drum. The combination of high temp and increased acidity should clear it out. Do that every couple of months to keep it clear.
