The unit is about 5 years old and we are now noticing that it skips parts of the cycle for no apparent reason and we also think it partially repeats the cycle.

is this an eproms/software issue?

no its not a memory issue its more likely diagnosing a fault and dealing with it in the way the manufacturer has told it to do should this type of fault be found.you need to get into the memory and read the fault code and this would instantly give you an indication of whats happening.common faults are failed heating elements or drain pumps but you need test gear to check these.sorry I can't be more help
