However long I leave the water on, the level is still very long. If I do add my own water the machine goes directly to spin.
Therefore the agitator is not turning and water is not filling up correctly

Your question is a bit confusing. What do you mean that the water level is long? Do you mean it takes a long time to fill or fills too high? As this model is run by a mechanical timer then it can only go to spin if the timer is turned to the spin position. Please explain exactly what happens when you add water manually.
