My mum has been having the same problems and ford service station said damaged alternator wiring loom,
and quoted £500 to fix, this seems extortionate to me, has any body had there problem fixed yet and at what cost?

Sorted. Check the 3 wires coming from the alternator attached to the plastic clip on block. Remove the cable casing and check for any breakages. The red wire on mine had eroded all the way through sending an error message. Rapid Fit do a repair of this using a replacement wire loom which they solder in. Part was £35 approx. so check yours out and if found faulty dont be spending anymore than £40. It takes them approx 20 mins to solder new one in. Hope this helps.

i'm having the same problem. I've had the instrument cluster changed which has put paid to the crazy needles, alternator is around 2 months old and is putting a charge to new battery but light is still coming on. I have same year car. The next port of call is to clean the earths up as this can cause all sorts of problems with false electric readings and i'm gonna check the wires coming from the alternator for breaks just in case. Have you tested for your voltage output with car off and idling? If these checks don't show any faults i reckon i'm gonna have to stump up the £94 for diagnostics :-(
