Pendant light to wall socket?

Is it possible/safe to have a pendant light on a cable/plug into a standard mains wall socket (so it can be moved around from place to place)?

Possible but not very safe. Would need appropriate fuse in plug and a decent length of cable but main danger will be from lamp breaking and exposed live conductors.

Mains inspection lamps are quite cheap. In UK Halfords do one for £3.00

If you want elegance on a budget Argos sell two floor uplighters for a mere £9.32 saving £0.06 on the single price!
