I thought chipping the ice from the freezer was a good idea but when we returned from an overnight trip away the freezer alarm was pinging the the temperature was rising. The smell of the leaking gas was very strong. We got a new freezer straight and I transferred all the food to the new freezer, first checking it to make sure it hadn't defrosted.

Is the food safe to eat after being exposed to the freezer gas. I had an open box of battered chicken and it smelt of the gas so I threw them away. What about the rest of the food? Should I bin that too?
