Economy 7 Boiler?

I have just moved into a new place and the boiler has no timer, two switches and 'Economy 7' stamped on the front. Can someone explain to me what both switches do, as there is no manual and I am currently just turning on the top switch as and when we need it. Thanks

Hi Dan, thanks for your response. Yeah unfortunately the switches are not labelled, and the boiler sounds like it's starting up whichever one you use! I'll have to have a play around with it...

Thanks again.

Hiya mate, it's so you can heat your water up overnight while it's cheap. One of the switches will be to tell it to come on between 11pm and 7am and the other will be so you can turn it on outside of these hours if you want an extra boost. Hope it says which one is which but if you don't know just try each one in turn in the daytime and whichever heats the water, you want the other one on all the time (the night one)
