cistern fills then keeps dripping causes water to run into basin ?

The toilet is only 8 years old and has the modern type of ballcock it fills upto the level it then continues to drip in cistern and water is then running slowly into toilet basin. iThe ballcock is approx 2inches in diameter and 3inches long, it is made by Ideal Standard or Armitage Shanks.

Agree with Richard you have to replace the washer in the inlet valve it could have hardened up Or some lime particles at the nozzle causing the problem.

sounds like you need to replace the washer on the inlet valve. If you've had eight years out of it on the original you've done well!
