Possible Tune Up or Calibration?

I have Philips Match lll 60" Widescreen TV that I purchased in 2001. It is not a FlatScreen PLasma or LCD, I do not have the Original Remote anymore Either. So What the problem is = The Picture just looks really bad as far as color. The color use to look alot better before. Is there anything that I can do to brighten the colors. Is there a tuneup kit that I need in order to make this happen or something else. The Audio seems to be very loud at times and other times it's just fine. Is there something to adjust that also?

Hi FERN,

Not sure what you mean by "bad colour"? Washed out colours? Or bleeding of colours? If that is indeed the problem, it might be related to the focus which can be adjust on the LOTP (Line Output Transformer). But if you are not a qualified TV technician or an electronics/electrical engineer, I suggest you do not attempt to open up your TV back cover to get access to the LOTP.

If however the problem you are describing is different, than the following might help, depending on how you experienced and confident you are with electronics in general:
1) find the type number of your TV
2) found out which chassis is being used in your TV: list of chassis numbers linked to various Philips TVs can be found on http://majority.110mb.com/index.htm
3) find repair tips for your chassis on this website http://www.hamradio-badarc.co.uk/fault_database.htm and check out the repair tips

The above is assuming that you need hardware adjustments.

Philips Matchline TVs however do also allow for software adjustments and alignment though. I would try that first. Go to http://majority.110mb.com/index.htm and find the service mode code that you need for your TV. But you will need a Philips (compatible) remote to active it. A word of caution: if you do not really understand TV alignment, you might make the problem much worse that it is.

I hope this will help you.

Good luck.
PS: service manuals of Philips TVs can fairly easiliy be found on the web or alternatively can be obtained from "Philips fans"-websites.
