I have a built in webcam on my acer 5535 laptop. How do I use it?

mine is the same and downloading Skype doesn't fix it! The web cam tells me that I am using it in another program and I AM NOT. Have tried lots of things to try and fix it, but on one or two occasions it miraculously works for no real reason at all, it just starts. So i think it is a fault with the computer. At least you kow you are not alone!
