Do I need a new screen for my laptop?

My Compaq Presario laptop has developed 2 permanent lines going from top to bottom of the screen. How can I get rid of these lines ?

Connect a external monitor to the laptop, you have to press function key (FN) + F5 to enable signal to ext monitor and if same lines appear on the ext monitor your laptop screens ok.
May be fault with graphics on m/board, inverter or cable to the screen.
