How Can I Test My Dishwasher Heating Element?

My AEG Favorit 44450 dishwasher runs normally but does not heat up. I've removed the heating element. How can I test it? I don't want to buy another then find the fault was elsewhere. Thanks.

PS: if the element is ok, where else might the fault lie?

You need a test meter set on ohms range. Put one lead on each terminal of heater. No reading or a very high reading would indicate a faulty heater element. A reading of about 30 - 40 ohms is usually about right. If element is ok, fault could be anywhere. Broken wire, faulty thermostat, fault in controller or timer.
