How can I get my sky + box off standby?

My Sky Box is stuck in standby mode, how do I fix it?
Mrs M, January 2009
mine did the same thing, would not turn on. Just the red standby light on. All i had to do was, turn the switch off at the plug for 5 seconds hold the left and right arrow keys together, keep your fingers held down on the arrow keys, switch the socket back on ,whilst still holding the left and right arrow key, then press the select button in the middle at the same time. And bingo the box should work. It worked for me. Good Luck.

I have found numerous queries on this since I started looking on Sunday wen my own box broke.. Some of the Sky+ boxes have received an update which caused this problem (see Sky site.) In the case of my own Sky+ box - which was no longer covered by insurance or guarantee - I opend my box and looked at my hard-drive -and it turns out the hard dive was resting on foam/rubber suff - which was touching the processor/chips. bits that I have always thought shouldn't be touched by anything.. This foam has melted over the processor bits - which has in turn knackered the hard-drive.. (not sure if it is a fire-risk or at risk of hazardous fumes) but as far as I am concerned, it was a design flaw, maybe purposely- to con us out of money - either through the insurance or having to pay a sky engineer to repair a problem that was caused by the manufacturer..

I feel that having paid out £250. for equipment that is obviously badly designed, negligence or a pure con - other people also should contact the CEO (as I have done)to complain.. The mre complaints and publicity the more they will have to take notice and fix the problem that has cost lots of people, loads of money...
