My hot water timer is set to off but the water still heats up ?

My hot water cylindar keeps heating the water even though I have turned Hot Water to off on the timer. It is so hot that it burns. How can I switch it off until I can afford to have it looked at?

check that zone valve is faulty and left open mode thus effectively microswitch closed and boiler keeps firing to heat the water
