when typing on laptop the wrong letters are showing on screen

thanks mate thats what it was. it was my fathers laptop and my ma dusted the key board . took some directing over the phone to direct him to where num lock is on keyboard. thanks again

Is it just some of the letters or all of them? Most common problem with laptops is the Number Lock being turned on accidentaly which makes the right hand side of the keyboard display incorrect characters. Check this first and then come back if it's not the problem.
