Mini usb socket may have come away from the board, its a common problem, has the usb port sunk in or feel loose?
If it is that is why you wont be able to charge the device and the low battery warning appeares

probably the USB connection has broken off the circuit board - a common fault, there is a company in London that will fix it for about £45 if you're in the UK, you can find them on the web
