Turntable ?

Had a turntable plugged into an Aiwa system, changed to a Technics hd550 ,same connections for turntable but it does not work with theTechnics. Both have a red and a white phone, both you switch to auxiliary or external but no sound with Technics. Do i need a turntable with a built in amp,if so why did it work on the Aiwa which is a similar system ?

You will need to buy a separate phono pre-amp as the Technics like a lot of the better quality turntables has no pre-amp built in.
Or if you have an old hi-fi amp you could connect your turntable to the turntable/phono input then connect the tape out/rec to the aux in on your aiwa, then turn on the hi-fi amp with the source set to phono and that should work.
A lot of the modern cheap turntables have built in pre-amps which enables them to be used with a lot of modern all in one systems where you only have an aux socket.
