How can I fix my scratched DVD?

Please can you tell me how you can fix a scratched DVD. I understand that DVD's and CD's can be fixed if they have been scratched - do you know a quick way how?

For deep circular scuffs, use a good drafting eraser. Orange peel oil may be used on the eraser. I discovered this while desperately (and successfully) recovering an old DVD recording of mine.

Use toothpaste. Its thats simple. And it works. No doubt! Rub from the center out, and buff out.

I have tried many methods to get scratches out of my DVD's and CD's. from the Maxell scratch removal system, to the cd clinic and the disc doctor. But by far the best results I have ever gotten was also the cheapest. By using toothpaste. I have tried a couple of methods by using toothpaste. One of them involved mixing a solution of water and toothpaste together. I had so-so results this method. But the best method is to put pure toothpaste on the disk- then using a very, very, very damp lint-free cloth to spread the toothpaste on the affected area where the scratch was. Then here comes the painful part- leave the toothpaste on the disk for atleast 24 hours so that the teflon in the toothpaste settles into the scratch. After it has dried for 24 hours- buff the toothpaste off using a lint-free cloth. Rinse off any excess toothpaste- buff again if needed and rinse again (it might take a couple of tries to get all of the toothpaste off- it is a must to have 100% of the toothpaste off!!!!) After the disk is dry put it into your DVD player and it should play perfectly!!!!

I have repaired many dvd and cd's. Here is how I do it. Usually if the disc is clean and it still isn't playing there is a scratch significant enough in size to distort the laser trying to read the small pit size under the acrylic resin. To get rid of the scratch it has to be sanded out. I'm not talking about 220 sandpaper either. You can buy 2000 or even finer grit wet sanding paper at an auto supply store that carries auto painting supplies. I woudn't go any courser than 2000.

Put the cd on a flat surface and with soapy water, pretty diluted, use the sandpaper in a circular motion on the surface of the disc. Don't sand on the inner ring of the disc just stay outside of it on the rest of the surface. Do this for a few minutes. Stop, rinse it off, dry it and see if the scratch is still there. You'll have to hold the disc sideways to see because it'll be very hazy until you polish it out. Once you get the scratch out or when you think the disc will read through it you'll need to polish it out. There are several polishes you can use. Your best bet is to ask the paint specialist at the automotive store which compound will remove 2000 grit sand scratches. This would be the same as if you were wet sanding the clear coat on a car and wanted to remove the scratches. You can even put a coat of wax on it when you're done if you want to. It may even fill in a little more. Have fun. I don't mind fixing them. It's kind of fun.......

I have fixed computer read cds with some cleaning and scratch paste, i have also used toothpaster to read cds for customers that had vital data on them and no other backups. put a small amount on the cd or dvd and rub in lines outward from the center on radius lines. dont rub in circles it didnt work as well for me. took me about 8 hours of work over a couple days watching tv for one to work. You can also try the dvd repair kits they have for sale but i havent had opne work for me they all seem to work in circles.
