Mico 311 DVD recorder faulty - bad motor driver IC?

Evening, all.

I picked this up out of a neighbour's dustbin. All the voltages coming off the power-supply board are fine, and the fan on the transport spins briefly after I try turning the unit on (from the wall - pressing the fascia Power button seems to have no impact). The laser flicks on briefly too, and the motor to the rear of the mech deck raises and then lowers the rear of the deck. OTOH, the display remains blank at all times, the spindle motor never spins after I've put either a CD or a pre-recorded DVD into the tray and closed it manually, and when I opened the drawer and turned the player back on, it didn't pull the drawer back in. Could a couple of bad channels on a motor-drive IC be causing this?

Any advice much appreciated.

Cheers, Jon.

change all the caps in the power supply, more so the ones that have a blown out top or even slighty popped up, change the lot is the best idea. the caps should have a flat top, maybe uprate the voltage if its a 16v cap make it a 25 or 35v the Uf must be the same. this might help, regards mark check the bottom of the caps too!!!
