I have a Sharp DVD Micro System XL - DV50 5 Disc Changer DVD video. At the moment it will play DVDS, but when I try to play a CD, it works and plays for about 5 seconds then cuts out and says "Protect" on the screen.
PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN!!

this problem is caused by the cooling fans inside the unit, they are not spinning to cool the amp heat sink. If the hi-fi detects the fan(s) not spinning the unit will display protect and may shut down. This really should be sent to you local service center for repairs or if its new then send it back to where you bought it from and see what they can do
