Baxi Solo 3 PF problem?

Fault condition - boiler dead to all intents and purposes - all neons out except 'fan on', which goes on and off accompanied by a relay like clicking sound.

If pot is turned down fan light stays off and clicking stops.

Occasionally if left in this condition, after a few hours the 'boiler on' light springs on, the pot can be turned up and the boiler works ok for the next 12 hours or so, before returning to the above fault condition.

Any ideas???

I had a problem with a baxi solo 2 chattering, saw something on the net about changing the capacitors, tried that and it fixed it, only cost £3/4, better than a new pcb.
all capacitors are microfarad. you need
3* 100uf 50v
7* 10uf 50v
1* 220uf 10v
2* 47uf 50v
Hope that helps

I have had this problem many times over the years on my Baxi Solo.
I take the pressure switch off, give it a blow, check the 2 flexible pipes for splits change them if neccessary,I have been doing this for ten years,it works.

Got exactly the same problem as seen below;

'Fault condition - boiler dead to all intents and purposes - all neons out except 'fan on', which goes on and off accompanied by a relay like clicking sound.

If pot is turned down fan light stays off and clicking stops.

Occasionally if left in this condition, after a few hours the 'boiler on' light springs on, the pot can be turned up and the boiler works ok for the next 12 hours or so, before returning to the above fault condition.'

I am hoping it's not going to be too expensive, but looking at the possible faults I think it might be.... Will keep you posted on what the engineer finds [unless he tries to rip me off] ..

Had this problem with my Baxi Solo 3 pf 60 and it turned out to be a tiny split in the hose that connects the fan to the pressure switch. There are two small flexi tubes and one had perished and was beginning to crumble.

Possilbe the pump has a fault and is back feeding the solinoid causing this chattering noise.
Try disconecting the pump and then see if this stop's the noise when closing the heating /water down.

have got a baxi solo 3 pfl 80, changed pcb because of a chattering noise from a solinoid on pcb, still have same problem with new board fitted?

john crabb, August 2008
1)remove and refit all plugs on pcb this will clean the contacts
2)the flue should run away from the boiler this will help move water vapor away from the fan (for fan flued only.not condensating boilers)
3)with all lights going out i would be looking for a poor contact on over heat stat & pcb
4) test power though the air pressure switch and the power to the fan .

Try changing the fan pressure switich

JIM, October 2007
this sounds like an air problem either theres a problem in the flue like a blockage, the seals on the boiler case could be split or not correctly fastened ,or the air pressure switch could be faulty , upon checking these it could be the printed circuit board

Had a similar problem with my solo 2, turned out to be the flue fan, it was faulty and would only spin a few degrees then stick again. Replaced the fan and it is working again
