why won't my pilot light stay lit?

I have a Baxi Central heating system, there is no model number. The pilot light under the fire won't stay lit for more than a few minutes. I light it using the grey push button then reapetedly pushing the ignitor button until it goes on. the pilot light goes off again almost immediately unless the heating is on, and even then, it only stays on for a few minutes.I live on the top floor flat.

this could be one of two things but as you are not corgi registered you certainly should not be messing around with an open flued appliance as it could be fatal fire and boiler need stripping down to remedy call someone qualified

You have to replace, or get someone to replace the thermocouple. This sends millivolts from the heat of the pilot to keep the gas valve open. It should cost no more than £70 for a Corgi registered engineer to replace. Let me know how you get on by emailing me on aocplumbingandheating@btinternet.com
