How do I repair a tap switch for a lamp?

I have a tap switch that controls the lights on our bed's headboard. It turns the lights on and off as well as three levels of intensity. When I touch the tap bar, it longer operates the lights. How do I repair it?

If its anything like the one I had go faulty then you can't repair it unless you're an electrical engineer with equipment for testing circuit boards. It could of course be something simple like a dry solder joint (they have a matt appearance) but I'm afraid you're going to have to throw it out and replace it with a new unit.
