The "front" half of the drum has now stopped rotating following several days of "clicks" and weid noises as if something was stuck !! Obviously it was, now the front section, as it is not rotating, holds the clothes so nothing is getting washed...any help appreciated.

it sounds like you have a problem with the gearbox on the back of the drum
if you are sure you can do this work yourself try taking a look at the large star shaped screw in the middle of the gearbox
make sure it is fully tightened as if it becomes loose the gearbox can move on the shaft causing your fault
before starting any work on your machine disconnect it from the mains first
