Can our (RCA) THOMSON RCA DRC8320N DVD/VCR RECORDER COMBO?

When trying to power on our dvc/vcr recorder a message "interface error" appeared and the unit has completely shut down now to the point that we can't get any power on the machine at all.
It is no longer on warranty and we do not have anyone in our city who repairs these. Do you know why that message came up and what the problem could be?

Yes. Capacitor(s) in the powersupply are going out. There is a specific one labeled C232 on the powersupply board that when replaces with 1000uF 35V part gets the unit going again. I have had limited success with this in that about 6mos after replacing the unit quit again. This I believe is due to the fact that there are more capacitors in the powersupply section that need to be replaced. I do not have the numbers right now but the customer wants it fixed again. I told her of these other caps at the time of the inital repair but it was, at that time, cost prohibitive to her (90+ just in parts) but now she wants it fixed again and I will not just get it going again. Problem is, total cost for repair by me will almost be the cost of a new unit. You can not get these anymore however and when they work....well the do a great job...

Well I bought one of these DRC8320N 'Combo's about a year ago (being the fall of 08) and like the year [last year:bad] I haven't opened the box as of yet -"Its Staring At Me, I Can Feel It...! (The box, that is.)
So, I decided to go on-line and see what the reviews and complications that might have become apparent since then... only to find a swath (and I mean A SWATH) of the most un-desirable incidents that one could expect from a product.
It freaks me out just thinking about the DRC8320N ('s) problems..."And It's Staring At Me, In Its Closed Box, Just Waiting To Get Into My Home...! " -I betcha if I put it to the curb -without opening the box at all- no one would even __dare__ to take it.
