this is a common fault with HP machines. Its due to the machine overheating causing the solder connections of the graphics chip to heat up. This can be fixed but simple means of a BGA Rework. I have provided a link for a company who carry out BGA Reworks at a very good price.

If the screen lights for a split second when 1st turned on there is a failure in the LCD backlight inverter circuits (electronic ballast). If all lamps, 4 in this model, don't start, the controller IC shuts it all off to protect it. I just repaired this same model last night. (For once it wasn't any 'lytic caps) There was dozens of bad connections on most power semiconductors, all 4 inverter xformers, etc. Plus 2-2SC5707, a 4431 MOSFET and a surface mount xsistor, L04, all blew in 1 of the drive banks. 1 bank drives 2 xformers and the other bank the final 2.
