how can a solenoid be tested?

Hi. It depends what you have available. If you have a multi-meter, you can check the resistance reading on the ohms range. If it is a low voltage solenoid, you can try touching the wires across a 12 volt battery. You should see the solenoid slug pull into the body of the solenoid. If you need more help, please let me know what the solenoid is from.
