Grohe Air Button?

I have the same problem with the Grohe air button. With the helpeof the adviceeon Mend it I have dismantled the button and there is a split in the black rubber bellows.

Where can you buy replacement bellows?

As these frequently spilt I have devised a long lasting method of repair. First fill the split with clear silicone making sure to penetrate the split. Allow to dry and then cover with double sided sticky tape. Remove the paper from the top of the tape and smear more silicone over the entire tape area and allow to dry thoroughly before replacing. I get many months from such repairs, works every time.

Thanks for all the input. Having virtually stripped the cistern to bits I think the replacement bellows from shower spares will be the solution.
Fingers crossed.

I can't believe I found this answer to my search entry and such helpful info for such a tiny part! Thank you everybody. It is clearly a fairly common problem with this unit. I was out of warranty and obtained a new part for £5 +£2.95 p&p from showerspares.com. Herga electrics were lovely but only sell them in packs of 4 now for £21 including p&p.

I called Grohe to see if I could swindle two bellows out of them as the two in our flat had both gone but as I couldn't prove that they were within the 5 year warranty they wouldn't oblige - only fair really, I was chancin my arm!

Alternatively I searched online and found them for a very reasonable price via the following website:
http://www.showerspares.com/grohe_shower_spares/grohe_grohe_toilet_cistern/grohe_adagio_6l_cistern_37762_sh0/grohe_38488_push_button_service_kit_113219/

I bought them late on thursday night and had them saturday morning. fantastic service and they were simple to fit.

Hi All
I didn't have a marigold so I striped down the switch as per details on this site ( sorry I can't remember who posted details but they were very helpful ) I then used a cycle puncture repair kit I did have to modify the patch a little but it works for now. I will be calling tomorrow for a replacement which I hope will be free of charge.
I will let you all know .

Just used the "marigold method", 10 minutes to fix and worked 1st time!! The builder who fitted toilet was going to remove tiles and replace whole system!! He's not getting in my house again.

The temporary repair suggested by edconnro, using a Marigold glove 'finger' is absolutely inspired!

So, whilst I wait for my replacement part, I cut the thumb off an old kitchen Marigold glove, sprinkled a small amount of talcum powder inside it for lubrication, and then slid it over the black bellows. I then trimmed the excess rubber from the base 'finger', applied a further small amount of talcum on the outside, and slid it in to the push-button housing. Button reassembled, and on first push, it works! Hurrah!

Just phoned Grohe (Herga) and spoke with a REALLY helpful lady in CS called Melissa.Said as gesture of goodwill, she will send out a couple in the post tonight. Now THATS what I call customer service.

This is a classic piece of crap [excuse the pun] design. I originally replaced the whole unit because the cistern stopped flushing. At up to £29 new, I wasn’t so keen to replace the unit when it subsequently stopped working again some time later. Having stripped the unit, I found the cause to be a rupture of the Grohe 63mm button bellows.
I stripped the unit I had replaced some time earlier and found the cause to be exactly the same. In my opinion the bellows will always rupture because it is encasing a metal spring, the recovery mechanism for the bellows once pressed. This will always happen [rubber having less endurance to friction/abrasion than the spring].
I found a temporary solution by encasing the button bellows in a finger cut from a marigold rubber glove and reassembling the push button. This also wears out but is cheaper the £13.50 for a new button bellows and affords me some time to look at a redesign of the button bellows within the push button.

I had the same problem, called Herga Electrics and spoke to a very helpful man. Who is sending me a couple of these bellows out free of charge.

Thank you very much Bryan Southey for the helpful advice.

Gosh, I have replaced this button twice in 9 years and the third one has just given up the ghost yesterday. It seemed to me to be a sealed unit and therefore not repairable. I have unscrewed the black plastic ring and removed the rubber washer. Should the white threaded unit just prize away from the shiny outer ring and button? Thanks.

Thanks to Phil for explaining how to take the button apart to replace the bellows, it was a bit stiff but sure enough with gentle prising it came apart OK.

Then a big thanks to Bryan Southey as I've just spoken to an extremely helpful lady at Herga who is popping a replacement bellows in the post c/w assembly diagram just in case.

When I first looked at the problem I could see a replacement button costing me around £26.50 from Showerspares so I'm delighted.

Nice one guys.

I contacted Grohe, and they sent me one free. They also sent me the front button which has a redesign to which is less abrasive. Good people.

I got a replacement from Herga Electrics. You order by phone, pay by credit/debit card and they post you a replacement black rubber bellows for around £5. It's really easy to fit, as once you have unscrewed the white plastic fitting to get the unit out, it just pulls apart without tools as it is only a push fit. Hope this helps.

Hello to you!

It sounds as though your bellow fitted inside the push button model number 6442 which is normally a standard chrome button fitted to a white threaded body has a split or a tear in the bellow.

Please feel free to contact Herga Electrics on 01284-701422 or visit www.herga.com and drop us an email and we would be more then happy to supply you with a replacment.

Regards,

Bryan Southey
