please help me connect my new ceiling light?

hi , can anybody help me. l am trying to replace a standard ceiling light (on a loop circuit) with new halogen light fitting. the problem l have is that there are 10 wires coming out of the ceiling whereas the new light has room for 4 to be connected.! ls that to do with the circuit being a loop? ls there a connector box or something l can use to join all the wires in. or can l just wire up some of them?! um. H-e-l-p!!

Not what you expected but.

I am not an electrician by trade and only work on mine as I know it then have it tested, but guess the light rose you've opened is also the junction box with loop out to next light.
A normal set up would be three cables. Power in, loop out to next light and the switch wire. So 3 brown [live], three Blue [Neutral] and 3 [ Earth] sleeved yellow/green =9 wires. What's your tenth wire?
In your case call an electrician...

NOTE: THE COLOUR CODE RELATES TO U.K ELECTRIC CABLE.
