Pries out the Kenwood badge (together with its back plate) in the middle of the control dial and there is a spring clip behind, which when released allows the dial to be separated from the control cam. On my mixer the spindle had come out of its retaining bush. I then knocked the spindle back in and then reassembled. Note the spindle should not turn. Only the control cam and dial turn.
