How do I fix my Bush DVHRSO2 DVD Recorder?

Can you help fix a problem with a Bush DVHRSO2 combi DVD Recorder. It doesn't seem to recognize DVD+R's. The best I can do now is to use DVD+RW's and this choice is not very reliable. I believe there is an upgrade I can get which extends the range of DVD's
