How can I fix my UPVc front door lock. ?

The locks are jammed in the closed position and although I can turn the key, the locks will not release and the door remains closed, the door handle does not now have any tension.

basically you are knackered. The multi point mech has failed and it is worst possible scenario in locked position. You need a locksmith, you have no chance DIY. The door frame needs to be prised apart using a door spreader to gain enough access to physically force the mechanism. This carries a risk that either the door or frame will warp or the window will crack, the locksmith will ask you sign a disclaimer. You are looking at a charge of approx £120 labour and anything from £60-100 for a replacement mech. Not nice, but quite common.

Have exactly the same problem this week.

Called original installer to check it out and the locking mechanism has broken off inside and needs to be replaced but the doors are around 18 years old and they may not be able to get the parts so may have to get a new door!

The only trouble we had previously was that sometimes the door wouldn't shut and the locks would catch against the plate and my mother (who didn't realise) slammed it hard resulting in it jamming.
