How do you get the lid off a Vernon Tutbury cistern? ?

It has a circular central button with short and long flush options with an etched Vernon Tutbury ring presumably retaining the mechanism.

Hi, I have just had to repair mine this morning. You have two silver flush push buttons. Push either of the buttons down so that you can get to the base of the other button to gently lift it right out (you will see it has a long plastic rod attached to it). Once you have taken out the first button remove the other button in the same way. You then have a plastic screw in the middle. Gently turn this button (can't remember which way). This screw secures the silver flush piece to the inside flush mechanism. Once you have undone this remove the silver flush piece from the lid and you should be able to take off the lid. Hope this helps.

from mick . the non plumer" the outer ring on the push button , thats the silver ring on the body of the lid" so try pushing down the flush button , hold it down" now try turn the outer ring , anti clockwise, it should screw all the way off , and then you can take the lid off ,,,,, mick
